Under the Weather

Feeling a little under the weather these days. First it was my computer, now it's me. I'll be back to regular posting when my head feels less cloudy.

From the Desk Fridays: Wedding in the Catskills

You may remember a From the Desk Fridays post back in July with a sneak peek at this invitation that we did for our dear friends who are getting married this weekend. I love the way this invitation turned out. Fall foliage invitations can be boring (and this couple is so not) but I feel like the sharp angles of the triangles spice it up a bit - and the heart shape, well I just love that, and it feels very them. I can't wait to celebrate this awesome couple this weekend and in such a great spot. I hear it's like Kellerman's from Dirty Dancing. Yessssss!

Have a great weekend.

(Katie's back from her honeymoon on Monday - double yes!)

Anniversary Tradition: Wedding Day Stuff

Each anniversary (a whopping three of them!), John & I pull out something from our wedding day. For our anniversary last year, we looked through the album of polaroids taken in a make-shift photo booth. I love professional photos, but sometimes the best shots are taken from the hands of your 7-year-old niece or a friend who's six beers into the night. This year, we looked through our wedding album - crafted by the super talented and super friendly Stacey Kane. Stacey's work speaks for itself. I love the presentation of the album she put together for us - beautiful, but not precious - or 500lbs of leather. Looking through the album made me so happy - and so very grateful for that day.

See more of Stacey Kane's work here.

(And a side note re the claymation-looking dog: it was part of the Groom's cake, a surprise for John: his old woody station wagon with our dog peaking her head out of the window. Made by Brooklyn-based cake designer Jill Adams of the Cake Studio.)

Anniversary Weekend in Photos: Acadia

Oh, Maine. Goodbyes are never easy. But I promise to visit again soon.

From the Desk Fridays: TGIF!

I lined 200 envelopes yesterday morning & didn't stop all day long. I even forgot to post! I guess that's why there's usually two of us here.

I'm even more excited that the weekend is here today because John & I are heading up to Maine today to celebrate our three year anniversary. It's becoming a little tradition for us - our anniversary trip up to Maine - where we went to college, met and got married. We're going all the way up to Acadia National Park. Since it's such a haul, we're taking Monday off as well. I can't wait!

Have a great weekend, everyone.

The Studio Booth

I'm less sad today & instead happy reflecting on the fantastic weekend we just had. There were so many great details from Katie & Colman's wedding, but one that stands out is The Studio Booth - a photo booth of sorts run by two people who take the pictures & print them right there. Guests get to take the hard copies - who doesn't love that instant gratification? The bride & groom get the digital ones. Barb from Hatch Creative Studio constructed this frame wall that allowed guests to peek their heads through. My nieces & nephews loved it, as did my in-laws. It was a big big hit! The wheels are already turning for how & when I could use the Studio Booth... 30th birthday next year??

My family hamming it up in the Studio Booth above. My niece far left. Me & my brother in law, top left. My sister in law peeking over Colman's shoulder. My sister with her youngest daughter on the right. My brother on the bottom right. My husband John's face peeking through the little frame on the bottom left. Bride & Groom center, of course. I love how we're all looking in different directions - my brother in law is looking at his daughter, who's looking at Katie, who's looking at me, who's looking out in space. Colman looking at my sister in law. So cute. So fun!

Post-Wedding Blues. Back to Work.

I was 15 the last time I was both a sister & a bridesmaid - Maid of Honor actually. And at 15, my mom did all the work for me. Moms! I was just there to hang out with my three friends who were invited, eat & dance. This time around was the same - except I have to rally come Monday morning - for more than just my math & science classes. Welcome to the real world, Liz. It's taking me a little while to get adjusted over here. AND, I'm sad to say that I took a total of probably 5 pictures the entire weekend. How lame is that?! Good thing Stacey Kane (who shot our wedding) was there to get all the good shots. And the amazing Studio Booth team Dan & Tara - soooo fun! Above is the Rehearsal Dinner invitation I did for K&C. Amazing calligraphy again by Bryn from Paperfinger. They didn't go with too much beachy stuff for their wedding decor - so I was excited to add a little bit of fishy fun to the mix.

Congrats again, K&C! I love you guys.

And I miss you over here, Katie! Your empty chair makes me sad. :(

Ahh well - off to reply to a boat load of emails and... think about what's in store for holiday 2009!

K&C Wedding Week

This is going to be my one & only post of the week. Hush now, you'll be okay. :)

My sister gets married on Saturday & I'm helping with nearly everything having to do with paper. Above is a little peek at their Rehearsal Dinner menus. Instead of having them letterpressed, I went back to how L&H got started: rubber stamps. I love love love rubber stamps. I took this little fishie design from their Rehearsal Dinner invitation (which was letterpressed) and had it made into a rubber stamp. I printed the menu text on fine Italian paper using our HP printer and hand-stamped each menu in a light blue archival ink. I don't think I'll ever tire of the rubber stamped look - how the hand is so obviously behind each impression. Bryn from Paperfinger did the calligraphy you see at the top. A touch of the hand in the text bumps it up a notch.

If you find yourself missing the L&H blog, follow me on Twitter. I can't give away too many details before the big day, but I'll be tweeting here & there - or as much as the bride will let me:)

Have a great week!

NYT: One Man's Trash

Did anyone see this article One Man's Trash in yesterday's New York Times? Holy moly - it is so cool. This guy in Texas has been building low-income housing out of, well, trash for 12 years. As we know, one person's trash is someone else's treasure. My favorite was this frame-sample ceiling. I mean - can you believe that?? It's gorgeous. See the slideshow from the article here & read more about Dan here.

Julia Rothman: Forks print

You may have seen this print by Julia Rothman on design*sponge the other week. I am a big big Julia fan so I was excited to get her tweet that the print is now up in her shop - $18 & includes shipping. No brainer. It's an edition of 50, so get going!
